Your logo is like the face of your business. It should be easily recognizable and have meaning for your company. Designing the perfect logo isn’t as easy as it seems. You’ll want to consider what that meaning is, what colors represent your business, and even what font is used for any wording. It should be memorable for your clients and prospective customers.

First, think about your business. What motivated you to start this business? Write down what drives you to do what you do. Your business desires, where you see your business in the future,

Let’s keep it simple. Start by thinking about your story. It’s not so much about what you do but why you do it. People like to buy from brands they like, so your logo should tell others about your story or the why behind your business. In that single graphic, you want your brand to be identifiable in an instant.

Next, if you could describe your brand in a few words, what would it be? Let’s say your business is selling sparkling water. If you search ‘sparkling water’ in a thesaurus to see what synonyms appear, I’ll bet you would get some descriptive words you hadn’t considered. Take a few of these words, do some mind mapping, and even sketch out some things that come to mind.

Take into consideration who your buyers are. This is a good time to create a buyer persona. Who is your ideal customer? What are the demographics? What will their buyer journey look like? Creating this ‘ideal’ customer will help you develop your brand.

It’s also a good time to think about your business colors. By now, you have at least a broad idea of what your logo might look like. What colors will be in your logo? Consider that your logo might be printed on a background of different colors. What will the colors say to your customer?

Your chosen font says something about your brand too. Some fonts are more formal, while others are fancy script, blocky, or even more playful.

Once you have your concept, imagine how it will be used. This includes everything from a thumbnail size to blown up on a billboard and everything in between. It will be seen on your website, on your social media, on your printed materials, and on logoed apparel.
